Comparative efficacy and safety of two types of NSAIDs: a multi-center prospective randomized study.
There are few data comparing the anti-inflammatory efficacy of different non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in clinical practice. Our objective was to compare the anti-inflammatory efficacy of nabumetone with piroxicam in a randomized open-label study conducted in clinical practice. Seventy-six patients with rheumatic disorders were randomly assigned to one of the two NSAID treatments. Pain intensity was assessed on a 10-cm visual analogue scale (VAS) at inclusion and at day 5 by a trained observer. Treatment efficacy was also assessed by a blinded observer on days 5 and 15. Side effects were also assessed on a 10-cm VAS and confirmed by a daily question asked to the patients. During the 15-day treatment period, the patients in the piroxicam group experienced significantly more pain than the nabumetone group (P = 0.025). There was no difference in the two groups regarding the VAS scores, the evaluation of treatment efficacy, and the frequency of side effects. The results of our study suggest that nabumetone is as effective as piroxicam in relieving rheumatic symptoms.Genotyping of the rice dwarf1 gene in rice germplasm by means of RFLP.
The rice dwarf1 (Rd1) gene, which confers the dwarf trait, is now being used in both gene transfer and marker-assisted selection programs to improve rice yield. To develop reliable and efficient marker system for the gene, we isolated a genomic clone from a rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Zhefen 501) in which the RD1 gene had been introduced and developed some simple molecular markers. One of the markers, polymorphic for the rice dwarf1 gene, is a fragment amplified with primer pair M1.2 and M1.1.
